Warm Springs
The West Desert of Utah is full of surprises. In the Snake Valley of extreme western Millard County, things appear dry and dusty. But a short detour west from the small community of Gandy will prove otherwise. From a rocky mountainside bubble hundreds of small springs that form streams and pools of crystal clear, comfortably warm water. Our most recent visit to this place came after a night at the Foote reservoirs about 12 miles east. Having been fishing in stinky water and being bit by mosquitoes and yellow flies, the water was particularly refreshing. Every time we take a dip in this water we feel ten years younger. The name, "Warm Springs" is accurately descriptive of the water temperatures. We guess that the average temperature is about 85 degrees. We've visited Warm Springs several times in the last few years. We can't seem to get enough of the place. The water is so clear and refreshing it is worth the drive. To get to Warm Springs with minimal dirt road-driving, travel west from Delta, Utah (or east from Ely, Nevada) and turn north on well-graded gravel road just inside the Utah border, less than a mile from the Border Inn. Gandy is about 29 miles from the turn off on this gravel road. In summer, the road is extremely dusty, but well maintained. As you approach Gandy, a road turns west, and Warm Springs is about a mile or so.
