Virginia

old Fourth Ward School, Virginia City, Nevada
Like many of our site
visitors, Rachel Cornett is a ghost town hobbyist. She contacted us several
months ago with questions. Since that time, Rachel's travels have taken
her to parts of Nevada we have never explored. Here are a few images from
the famed heart of the Silver Rush, Virginia City, where the old west
is still alive and well.
"In Virginia
City's heyday, they mined enough silver ore there to build San Francisco
twice, over $5 billion worth, the most ever taken out of any mine. Back
in the late 1800's or early 1900's, the townspeople murdered a madame
there that they didn't like because of what she was doing (running a brothel,
of course) and how successful she was at it, and her gravestone is at
the very front of the cemetery in Virginia City."
a view of the Geiger grade under Virginia City,
"the
Suicide Table in the Delta Saloon. There's a reason it's called the Suicide
Table. If you want the story, contact me at ghost_town_huntress@yahoo.com"
"
a view of Reno from under Virginia City (if you look closely you can see
a casino)."
a caboose off of the old Virginia & Truckee Railroad
"a herd of
wild horses (I circled them, you kind of have to look closely to see them)"
