Sharing Information and Photos on Desertislands.org

Desertislands.org encourages viewers to share their information and photographs from the Great Basin. The best way to do this is to send email to Dave Crockett (dave@crockett.net). We also have created a SUBMIT page as an alternative. Below are some guidelines you may find helpful as you prepare your submission. Please know that we appreciate any and all submissions and will do whatever we can to get them posted, as long as they meet the following basic guidelines:

1. The Great basin region includes most of Nevada, western Utah, southeastern Oregon, parts of southern Idaho, and eastern California (the east slope of the Sierra Nevada). Only submissions from these areas are considered for posting.

2. Not all submissions are posted. Here are some reasons we have not posted submissions:

Insufficient information/background
Poor photo quality/technical problems
Communication difficulties (sometimes we have questions and need you to write back with answers)
Featured area not within boundaries of Great Basin

3. We prefer JPG files large enough that they can be edited if needed. They should be sent as attachments via email rather than part of a word processor document such as MS Word or Corel WordPerfect. We can usually make other file types work. If you are uncertain you can send the type of file we need, please don't be afraid to ask.

4. We encourage you to provide text describing the photos. Please report any activities, observations, features, etc. that make the place interesting.

6.. In return for submissions, we will reciprocate with links and credit you accordingly.

7. If you're uncomfortabe with the remote possibility that someone will download your picture and make it their wallpaper, or send it to their friends in New Jersey, please don't submit it to us. We cannot protect copyrighted material.

8. Acceptable: mines, ghost towns, mountain ranges, fishing adventures, hikes, campouts, general exploration, small towns, off-beat people, road trips, lakes, streams, rivers, basins, art, natural landmarks, caves, climbing, skiing, snow-shoeing, wildlife, hot springs.

9. Not acceptable: extreme profanity, big cities, advertising, political views, illegal activities such as trespassing.
