This
tiny, well hidden community has never actually been a ghost town...
but you might wonder how the town survives after a visit. A wonderful
little oasis in the desert north of Golconda, Nevada, this little
place is home to about 20 full time residents. Its proximity to an
active mine, we thought, must be the reason the town is still there,
but the owner of the Midas Saloon and Dinner House told us that the
workers are bussed in from Battle Mountain, and that none of the town's
resident are employed at the mine.
The Midas Saloon
and Dinner House serves the tallest burgers I've ever eaten. And the
fine couple running the place were very sociable. The gentleman even
sat with us as we ate our lunch, and we talked fishing in the Owyhee...
which is now a definite "must see" destination. Stay tuned.

with the owner of the Midas Saloon. I had just had a conference call
with the folks back at the office and had lost my appetite.
Main Street.
This is Willow
Creek on the way to Midas from Tuscarora. Big river, no fish, according
to a couple of friendly ranchers who passed by. Seems that almost
everyone we met on this trip was friendly... good folks out here the
Basin.
From Midas, we
headed toward Battle Mountain to gas up and make the long trek back
to Salt Lake City after four incredible days in northern Nevada...and
one bad conference call.
