Lunar
Crater
Nye County, Nevada
The
Lunar Crater area in central Nevada consists of a number of extinct
volcanoes that have collapsed and left deep craters. The main crater
is named not only for the moon-like landscape it occupies, but also
for the fact that it was used by aspiring astronauts in the 1960's
in preparation for America's first walk on the moon.
Rocks such as this
are common in the Lunar Crater area.
