Locomotive Springs
is a cluster of fresh water springs at the north shore of the Great Salt
Lake, about 15 miles south of Snowville, Utah. The area has been a reputed
destination for anglers for decades. We had read about people catching
sizable trout and bass from the numerous ponds. But on our visit to Locomotive
Springs, the fish weren't biting.
High winds made the
fishing difficult and it wasn't long before our patience had run out.
So we spent a good deal of our time just relaxing, and made a midday trip
into Snowville to gas up and get supplies for the coming days in the Newfoundland
Mountains.

Locomotive Springs. Raft River Mountains in the distance.
Ryan always manages
to make a friend or two on these trips. He has yet to hone his skills
on the two-legged variety. Maybe a shower and a beard trimming would help.

Ryan.
We arrived in the
region at the end of an all-night drive. As the sun was rising, we drove
a few miles east to see Lone Rock (also known as Monument Point), a rock
formation perched on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. The wind was stiff,
and temps were cold, but the eerie morning light made the view memorable.
