Big Hollow
in the Stansbury Mountains
Tooele County, Utah Jim Drysdale
On this blustery fall
day I decided to hike up Big Hollow to the pass and take in the fall colors.
The trailhead is located at the southern terminus of the Stansbury Front
Trail in the Stansbury Mtns of Utah's West Desert. A nice little hike
follows with views opening about a fourth of the way up.
Up top you are treated
with a big open shot across the next valley, onward to the next pass.
In the distance is Deseret Pk - a gem of a hike. Only saw a handful of
folks. Most were out looking for bucks as the deer hunt opened last Wednesday.
Very few are to be
found in the Stansburys these days. Mountain Lions? Drought? Hunting pressure?
It's anyones guess… But the fact remains that they're hard to come by.
The Stansburys have
been my home range for the past four years. Come next year I'll be living
in Northern California so you can think of these photos as my feeble attempt
in giving this place a sort of tribute. It's a beautiful range that doesn't
receive the throngs of "sheeple" that beat down the Wasatch in droves.
A good place for the soul.
