The Bald Hills lie
northwest of Cedar City, Utah between Three Peaks and Lund. Access via
the old Lund highway is possible. Look for gates along the south side
of the road for trails leading into the Bald Hills. A high clearance vehicle
is strongly recommended, and a good spare tire isn't a bad idea either.
The roads are not steep, but they are very overgrown with brush and deeply
rutted in some areas.
We took the youngsters
out for a day hike to get some of the wiggles out. The Bald Hills are
conveniently close to home, yet very untraveled, so we figured this was
a good spot to explore.
Although these hills
are only hills, and not particularly breathtaking, the kids enjoyed the
vistas and finding raptor nests in the cliffs and bones from various desert
creatures. While they were enjoying their activities, we enjoyed the peaceful
surroundings and crisp fall evening air.
